Destination Hoover is a 501c3 non-profit founded in 2018 for the purpose of fostering cultural exchange and international relationships uniting Hoover, Alabama and people throughout the world. In a sentence, our mission is to bring the world to Hoover, and Hoover to the world!
A key activity will be working on a Sister City relationship, with an initial focus on Japan, Germany, and India. We are a member of Sister Cities International, a national non-profit group founded by Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956.
Building a Sister Cities program can takes several years, so we will also be planning many other activities, including:
- Participating in regional cultural groups such as Japan America Society of Alabama and the Alabama Germany Partnership
- Planning events in the city to highlight the many cultures and visitors we already host in Hoover
- Offering scholarships to Hoover City Schools graduates who plan to study fields related to international relations or cultural exchange
